Black
artscanada, Oct. 1967, v. 24, no. 9, pp. 3-18
A transcribed conversation, held between seven artists, musicians, critics, etc. in Toronto and New York, about black as a color and as a term in sociocultural discourse. The participants discuss and argue about the aesthetic associations, symbolic meanings, and cultural implications of black. Black is discussed as color, as material, as space, and as social construct. The differences in each participant's understanding of black becomes a means by which to discuss their own relation to creative practice, critical language, and the art world. Captions for the artwork are missing.
