This article assesses the performative video work of Joan Jonas, in which live actions are juxtaposed with a prior video recording of similar actions. This structure has the effect of making visible the subtle alterations and obfuscation of the camera and monitor. Though the performance has some wandering moments, writer Noel Carroll finds it coherent and ultimately successful.
