David Askevold: cultural geographies and selected works, Oct. 1998, v. 45, no. 2, pp. 69-84

Charlottetown, P.E.I.: Confederation Centre Art Gallery and Museum, 1998

This file consists of a biographical sketch of art teacher and artist David Askevold, notes on some of his video works that are part of the 1998 exhibition Askevold: cultural geographies and selected works, and Askevold's selected biography. Askevold is an important artist in the video community in Halifax during the 1970s and 1980s. He is the creator of the unconventional, yet influential Projects Class at the Nova Scotia College of Art Design. The program invites conceptual artists to provide instructions by mail for the students at the college to produce projects. Askevold's video works explore open-ended narrative structures whose ambiguity challenges the viewer's intuitions and expectations of the traditional ends of television.
