Gutsy scenes in fish-market film
The Toronto Star, Nov. 26, 2004
Peter Goddard discusses the Hollywood references in Allan Sekula's documentary Tsukiji which is about the Tokyo fish terminal of the same name. Using Hollywood scenes, Tsukiji subverts what the viewer expects from documentaries, and instead of proving a pre-determined idea, as in most documentaries, Sekula intends for the audience to witness the market as life unfolding itself.
