The Valerie Project: resounding the forgotten treasure of Czech new wave cinema
Musicworks, Summer 2009, no. 104, pp. 26-34
This article is an in-depth account of a folk revivalist group based out of Philadelphia, who pay homage to a Czech New Wave obscure film from 1970, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. The Valerie Project performs the revised soundtrack to Valerie as the film is projected in a live performance. The film itself is about Valerie, a young woman who must deny the lure of priests, family and vampires for her own survival. The Valerie Project builds on a legacy of new wave cinema through experimentation and improvisation.
