Document & Dream
New York: ARTISTS SPACE, 1989
Document & Dream is a catalogue essay for an exhibition of the same name. In it, Dan Walworth examines the ten videotapes included in the exhibition. Using a dialectical analysis of realism vs. constructions, or nature vs. cultures, Walworth points out that the videotapes not only offer a sample of new directions in contemporary (North American) realism in cinema, but also question the process of our own reading and writing of history.
