Film und video: verändern die technischen Medien die künstlerische Aussage?
das kunstwerk, 1980, v. 33, no. 1, pp. 44-46
The article discusses the video medium. Like film and photography, video is the most recent technical method that contributes to blurring the boundaries among the arts. Artistic experimentation with the electromagnetic method of recording and fixation with TV have enhanced fascination as well as led to a critical engagement with the medium. Many video artists have been concerned with the destruction of different ways of living and intellectual traditions through technology. Video is, however, still considered to be inferior to film. Video can only be used to document actions, whereas film can be used for artistic perception of the form and movement. It takes, moreover, very good handling of the camera to make editing redundant and only very few artists have yet mastered the technique.
