A Right to Virtuality

by Calin Dan

In Sight: Media Art from the Middle of Europe, 1995, pp. 28-34

Toronto: YYZ Artists' Outlet, 1995

"A Right to Virtuality" describes Dan's curatorial role during his Ex Oriente Lux and 010101... exhibitions. Dan felt that "old" media art was exhausted and looked to produce an exhibition of video installations, Ex Oriente Lux, in Romania in 1993, from which he received many oppositional arguments. 010101... consisted of a fifty-seven minute film, of documentation he acquired by a site-specific process, inviting sixteen artists or artist groups to work around the theme of potential inter-reactivity within their communities.
