Testing the Limits: An Interview
Afterimage, Oct. 1989, v. 17, no. 3, pp. 4-7
Lorraine Kenny interviews members of the Testing the Limits collective (formed in March of 1987, New York City). Testing the Limits began as a documentation of protests by organization such as ACT UP, and records and analyzes the legal, medical and social issues around the AIDS epidemic and offering straightfoward information and assistance regarding AIDS.
Members of Testing the Limits describe how the group began (in making a pilot program regarding the AIDS crisis) and the activism and community-goals of the group, funding crisis and the organizations who have assistance with Testing the Limits. The group discusses their collective structure and advisory board, alterntative activism in the form of media production, and an anti-art approach (wanting to be a part of the community rather than a gallery).
