War Artist: Althea Thauberger on the Cultural Front Lines
Canadian Art, Spring 2010, v. 27, no. 1, pp. 62-67
Although focusing primarily on her photographs, this article touches on how Althea Thauberger's mixed media work presents a platform for questioning cultural "blind spots." (p.66) From singing teenaged girls, to the Canadian military in Canada and Afghanistan, to the wives and families of poverty stricken Mexican-American military soldiers, Thauberger quests to represent real life subjects, not hired objects. Through this, her photos, videos, and performances have created a opportunity for discussion of national and cultural issues.
