Artists Video: An Alternative Use of the Medium
Tyne and Wear: Biddick Farms Art Centre, 1979
This exhibition features a wide variety of video artists from around the world. It attempts to showcase a "a complete spectrum of video art activity" and approaches to the medium, as "an attempt to provide a platform for the work of artists who are trying to use technology rather than be used by it" (quotes taken from catalogue). Part of the aim of this show is not only to showcase the artists' works but to allow viewers to be engaged with the world of video art. Includes text by Brian Hoey and Wendy Brown entitled Video Art: Verbose, shallow, or just plain tinkering with gadgets? as well as brief descriptions of works and artists' statements. The exhibition ran from October 29th to November 11th, 1979 and featured over 15 works with artists such as Richard Monkhouse, Stuart Marshall, Alex Meigh, and so on.
A copy of the essay can be found in article archive binder 1979.
