Gabriel Gomez reviews the 12th Annual International Festival of Film and Video, sponsored by Women in the Director's Chair (WIDC). Gomez frames this festival (amongst similar ones) of primarily women's work as an integral link in networks of independent producers, in terms of giving a voice to diverse women, reaching community audiences through non-commercial access, and providing crossover opportunities for producers from the uncommercial realm to the mainstream. The festival includes narrative, docummentary, animated, and experimental pieces distributed among festival programs that span topics in gender identity, women's health and reproductive rights, Native American women, women in urban life, and women in prison. Many of the pieces included in the festival integrate issues of multiculturalism and the immigrant experience into their content.
