As A Wife Has A Cow
Video Guide, 1986, v. 8, no. 37/2, p. 4
Sara Diamond reviews Cornelia Wyngaarden's video installation "As A Wife Has A Cow," work exhibited at the Contemporary Art Gallery as part of "Luminous Sites," a larger exhibition of Canadian video art in Vancouver. The title of this installation is borrowed from a book written by Gertrude Stein. In her installation, Wyngaarden attempts to reconfigurate the traditional image of the The West. Replacing the recognizable cowboy with a female heroine--the cowgirl--Wyngaarden hopes that her subtle use of parody will encourage a reflection on gender stereotyping.
