National Gallery Cuts Video Program: Artists Protest

by Renee Baert, Colin Campbell and Vera Frenkel

Video Guide, 1986, v. 8, no. 1, p. 2

Renee Baert, Colin Campbell, Vera Frenkel, and Kim Tomczak bring to attention some background information related to the termination of the video program at the National Gallery of Canada in a letter of protest published outlining its historical statistics. They proclaim that by terminating the video position held by Robert McFadden, the Curatorial Assistant of Contemporary Art (Video), the National Gallery has effectively terminated the video exhibition and purchase program. The artists demand a clear allocation of dollars and person-hours be committed to the maintenance of the video program.
