Collided, Crashed and Assimilated: Mark Lewis makes art with documentaries
POV, Fall 2009, no. 75, pp. 16-19
Independent filmaker Annette Mangaard discusses Canadian artist Mark Lewis' video installation exhibited at the 2009 Venice Biennale. In light of the numerous video and film based art works that dominated the Biennale, Mangaard explores the interplay of visual and media art. Looking at Lewis' installation, titled Cold Morning, as a series of short documentaries presented in a traditional art space, Mangaard questions the experience of viewing film as art work outside the conventional space of cinema.
