Under 5
Video Guide, Oct. 1984, v. 6, no. 5, pp. 4-5
This article reviews the Under 5 competition held in Vancouver in the Fall of 1984. Under 5 was a national video competition sponsored by Video Inn, and Firehall Theatre of Vancouver. This article also reviews the works that won as finalists in the competition. Entries needed to be completed in 1984 and could not be longer than 5 minutes in length. Entries were either documentary, music or art videos and were all judged together without categorization. Finalists were shown as a package in a cable telecast (September 2) and in exhibitions (August 29-September 14). The competition was judged by artist and critic, Eric Metcalfe, video artist Liz Vander Zagg, CKVU broadcaster Michelle Gibson, and Rogers Cable 10 program director Martin Truax. Entries were submitted from all across Canada, with the majority of winners from Montreal, and very few entries from Vancouver.
