The Videopioneer

by Michaela-Elisabeth Buscher

Video Guide, Oct. 1984, v. 6, no. 5, p. 15

In this article Buscher reviews the video Videopioneer by Gerd Conradt.

The Videopioneer presents six stories from an area in Berlin (Charlottenburg) which undergoes urban renewal. It portrays six individuals: an old woman, an architect, an experimental video filmmaker, a sales-clerk, a politician, and a renters' initiative spokesman and his wife. The struggles of these individuals at the beginning of the renewal project in 1973 is shown in black & white footage. In 1983 the same persons are shown the old black & white material. The video montage of past and present works to interpret the historical material and illustrate the politics and social opinions of urban renewal.
