Images 90
C Magazine, 1991, no. 28, pp. 57-60
This article is a review of Images 90, a six-day festival of film and video works put on by Northern Visions, a group of independent media workers. Images 90 marked the third year of the festival, which took place at the Euclid Theatre in Toronto. Images 90 was composed of nearly 90 alternative films and videos, which critique hegemonic and dominant social perspectives and values (works featured aspects of feminism, First Nations People, Gay and Lesbian rights, racism, and AIDS education/activism...etc.) Fran Gallagher-Shuebrook is forthcoming of the successes and failures present in the work at Images 90. The "successful" works are discussed in her review and are listed below. The works that are "failures" are not listed and according to Gallagher-Shuebrook use the "electronic gadget" as a crutch and distraction from content.
