In Media Res: Mass Media in Art's Field of Tension
Flash Art, Oct. 2008, pp. 122-125
In this article, Raimar Stange shows how the growing presence of mass media and new media in contemporary life is reflected in the work of a number of contemporary artists. The article describes a number of works, mostly video, which explores a range of topics including American news networks, celebrities, and the internet. Stange argues that this artwork shows how contemporary artists have begun engaging mass media in a way that is less optimistic than their predecessors, and shows less of a lack of inhibition.
