Isaac Julien: Ten Thousand Waves
Flash Art, Oct. 2010, p. 114
Keiko Okamura reviews Isaac Julien's Ten Thousand Waves, an ambitious nine-screen video installation. The videos draw on Chinese myth and cinema to creative a narrative about the Morecambe Bay tragedy, in which many workers from the Fujian province were killed. Okamura praises Julien for his sensitivity and dedication to Chinese culture, but although the work is visually impressive, claims it lacks a coherent message.
