Realism and Realistic Representation in the Digital Age
Journal of Film and Video, 2010, v. 62, no. 3, pp. 3-16
The article discusses the representation of reality in the age of digital technology. It underlies the value of indexical and non-indexical factors in the process of signification, particularly when exploring the digital cinema. The author argues that the so called "cinematic realism", in Bazinean sense, does not represent reality itself because it does not contribute knowledge of realism, but rather evokes feelings, concerns and admiration.
