Pressed into the Service of Canada: Issues in Preserving the Software of Hollis Frampton and the Digital Arts Lab
The Moving Image, Spring 2012, pp. 18-43
Andy Uhrich looks at the computer programming career of artist Hollis Frampton, seeking to construct a history of DAL software and the potential Frampton saw for artist-technology integration, at a time when analog forms had not yet been replaced by digital media, operating alongside new technologies. Uhrich believes in the importance of preserving these old programs to better understand the artist's relationship to their digital tools.
