Fantasy and Distraction: An Interview with Pipilotti Rist
Afterimage, Nov. 2000, v. 28, no. 3, p. 7
Swiss video artist Pipilotti Rist has been exploring electronic media since the mid-1980s through single-channel tapes, performances, sound recordings and installations, most of which overlap from one work to the other as she remixes, reedits and reinstalls images, sounds, and objects. Rist's work explores and sharpens interrelated tensions between high art and popular culture, distraction and concentration, fantasy and reality, femininity and hysteria.
Christine Ross interviewed Pipilotti Rist on April 27, 2000 in Montreal, Canada, discussing Rist's installations, motivations, interests, and various works.
