On lip-sync:: Three Audio-Visual Vignettes from the 1970s
Intellect Limited, 2011, v. 4, no. 2, pp. 153-169
Author Gabrielle Gopinath looks at various videos and film shorts from the 1970s, which each feature a close-up shot of the artist's mouth, which moves in imperfect sync with the audio track, thereby focusing-in on the idea of lip-sync itself. Gopinath looks at how recorded voice is used to address the meaning of existence in a heavily mediated, often alienating, culture, which was rapidly emerging during the period at which the pieces were produced.
