Allison Hrabluik: The Poetics of Work
BlackFlash, 2008, v. 25, no. 2, pp. 34-40
Since 2002, Calgary-Born, Antwerp-based artist Allison Hrabluik has produced a series of short, non-narrative animated videos that mark the alienation and mediation of a fully commodified self and nature, while simultaneously reanimating the potential for creative work to shape and change lived experience. Each tableau focuses on an emancipatory moment in which the character(s) resist their given social role(s) to investigate the potential of carving out a new identity through creative activities within the confines of dominant economies.
