The Abstractions of Geopolitics
Art AsiaPacific, June 2015
Review of an exhibition by artist and filmmaker Charles Lim at the Singapore Pavilion of the 56th Venice Biennale, an Italian arts organization. The exhibition, called SEA STATE, reflects on the effects of capitalist expansion, political pursuits and nation-building thematically presented by the sea. The multimedia project works to pin abstractions down onto concrete geographical locations, to create what Lim calls "real abstraction."
