"Material Girls" Takes up Space at the Dunlop
Canadian Art, Apr 2, 2015, pp. 1-3
Review of the "Material Girls" exhibit at the Dunlop Art Gallery in Regina. The show is comprised of 24 women artists working in practices ranging from new media to craft.
These artists transformed the gallery from its usual white cube into something
unapologetically colourful and productively cacophonous, striking a balance between clean conceptual sophistication and the messiness of a teenage girl’s bedroom. A commonality shared in the different pieces is the way they address the role of the embodied experience and interactions with objects as a way of reclaiming the value of materialism.
