Ellen Cantor
Art Monthly, June 2016, no. 397, pp. 27-28
McCormack reviews Ellen Cantor's posthumous retrospective at Kunstlerhaus Stuttgart, which includes drawings, paintings, photographs, and videos. One concern the author raises is how the works are exhibited, with a mix of melancholia and sensitivity, which he feels does not do justice to an artist who once stated she felt her work should be shown somewhere "like an erotic harem, like a dance club."
The thread uniting the works presented in the retrospective, McCormack suggests, is Cantor's question in Pinochet Porn, "Is tragedy a choice?"
