Isuma Is a Cumulative Effort
Canadian Art, april 22, 2019, p. 10
This article mainly focuses on how Igloolik Isuma Productions Inc., as an Inuit film collective, stimulates the Inuit culture and shares it with the world. Assinnajaq introduces the background story before the founding of Isuma in the introduction: Igloolik was the last town where the people were against having cable TV in the 1970s, when the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation pushed Zacharias Kunuk and other producers to explore possibilities to present the Inuit on screen. She also discusses the films from Isuma, along with the methodologies which are relevant to Inuit ways of working. At the end of the article, she describes the success Isuma Productions (now Isuma Distribution International) has had in bringing audiences emotional connection to the Inuit community.
