by Aaditya Aggarwal

Canadian Art, Dec 4, 2017, p. 4

This article traces the Komagata Maru incident by referencing Leonard Frank's archival photography work Sikh Men and Boy Onboard the Komagata Maru that was taken in 1914. Komagata Maru was an incident that 376 British Indians attempted to emigrate to Canada by steamship. Only 24 of them were admitted to Canada, but the rest of the passengers were sent back to India. The author describes the background of the incident at the beginning of the article, then he analyzes the photography work by referencing the curator Deepali Dewan, the filmmaker and scholar Ali Kazimi, and the illustrator Gloria Ho.
