The Chaos of Displacement
ArtStars, Nov 14, 2018, p. 5
This article is an interview with French-Canadian artist Maria Legault, whose work usually relates to displacement and isolation of her cultural identity. By analyzing her work Free Sugar, she discusses how she began this series, the symbolism of the princess and the frog, and how she attempted to subvert the pejorative slur referring to French-Canadians as "frogs." Lastly, she describes the role of sugar, which is a significant component of this work. It is utilized with cream to undermine the symbolism of the frog and the princess during her performance.
