Screens of Resistance
Canadian Woman Studies, 1990, v. 1, no. 11, pp. 73-74
In this short article, Tuer locates the history of women's video in Canada, by referring to Paulo Freire's understanding of conscencia - a process by which social, economic and political contradictions are perceived and action is taken against the oppressive elements of reality. According to the author, the use of the medium has shifted from a space of self-reflection into a sphere of self-definition, in this way redefining and reshaping fragments of dominant (and problematic) media culture.
