Video Artist Richard Fung Reveals the Hidden Histories of Queer Sexuality and the Asian Diaspora

This article focuses on Richard Fung's works and how they are connected with Fung's personal past and political questioning in terms of race, gender, immigration, and class. Through his works, he aims to raise awareness of Asian queer communities challenging racial discrimination and Westernized perceptions. Chinese Characters (1986), in particular, is one of Fung's most recognized works. In this video, he creates an experimental hybrid, mixing fictionalized interviews with appropriated extracts from gay porn videos, as well as a brief personal testimony.
