The Sight of Music: The Jawa Videos of Jubal Brown and Tasman Richardson

by Ulysses Castellanos

Toronto: Vtape, 2011

The Sight of Music: The Jawa Videos of Jubal Brown and Tasman Richardson is one of three essays produced in association with Vtape's Curatorial Incubator volume 9.

Ulysses Castallanos relates the work of Jubal Brown and Tasman Richardson to that of the Jawas in Star Wars, citing them as their influence of the name Jawa Collective.

The Jawa collective's mission was a call to action against the misuse of video as a literal medium. They sought to re-contextualize mainstream media where the clips are the source of both what is seen and heard, stating that "the soundtrack is and always will be the image track".
