This book accompanies the exhibition The Clichettes: Lips, Wigs, and Politics (2024) on display at the McMaster Museum of Art. The exhibition is the first retrospective of the Toronto-based performance collective The Clichettes. In the introduction of the publication, the curator Ivana Dizdar provides a historical overview beginning with the inception of The Clichettes in 1978 and their involvement in the Canadian art scene up to the early 1990s. The featured essays include personal anecdotes, historical context and critical analyses that testify to the ongoing cultural impact The Clichettes have on their audience.
