Candiana | A Cinema of Care: The Films of Janis Cole and Holly Dale
Cinema Scope, June 21 Summer, 2022, no. 91
Toronto: Cinema Scope, 2022
In her comprehensive essay on Cole and Dale’s body of work, Cayley James brings attention to a curious omission discovered in her research. The filmmaking team was largely left out of discussions about the Toronto New Wave of the 1980s — which James points out happened despite their three nominations in that decade for Best Documentary, with a Genie Award win for P4W. Her incisive survey presents a cogent argument for their presence during the era, and beyond.
