Our People:: Janis Cole and Holy Dale in the 1970s
Any Other Way: How Toronto Got Queer, May 2017, pp. 242-244
Toronto: Coach House Books, 2017
Davies describes the first two films of Janis Cole and Holly Dale, made at Sheridan College in their early twenties, as having sex worker and entertainer subjects of every conceivable gender and sexuality, that populate their blissfully frank and open-hearted student films without any trace of sanctimony. In these early shorts he finds the groundwork for their profoundly ethical and anti-moralistic queer verité filmmaking.
