Inuit Community Filmmaking Mentoring Guide: The Art of Community Based Filmmaking
Isuma TV, Nov 4 Winter, 2015, p. 55
A guide for aspiring filmmakers, focuses on Zacharias Kunuk's experience and words of wisdom. Norman Cohn also shares some insight as a non-Inuit apart of the Isuma production team. The guide goes into the background of Zacharias Kunuk and the creation of Isuma. He gives plenty of advice on the 'Inuit' style of filming, as well as the idea that anyone can be a film maker. Isuma prides themselves in asking their Elders and community for advice, focusing on the Inuit local community, rather than caring about the industry side of things. Kunuk puts emphasis, on filming everything without expecting certain results, and the idea of causal interviews during documentation. He describes, how having interest in what you film, translates to the screen. What is the point of creating films if you do not care for it? He gives clear advice for film makers to start off, stating film is a craft of care and we all have different perspectives to share.
