This article is a survey of Steve Reinke's work, including The Hundred Videos and Spiritual Animal Kingdom. The article describes the confessional style of Reinke's work, evident in the history of gay discourse as an escape from repression. Reinke' work offers a similar tone, in his use of the first person account and psychiatric address--but he subverts the confession process because what is said in his video's may or may not be true. Metcalf concludes that Reinke puts forward a radically queer aesthetic, while throwing into question gay identity construction.
