Defying the Gaze: The Work of Thecla Schiphorst
Border Crossings, Feb. 2001, v. 20, no. 77, pp. 72-73
A review of Thecla Schiphorst's show Felt Histories (re: the fact of a doorframe) a computer based multi-media installation about women, aging and sexuality. MacDonald describes her visceral reaction to the piece where the viewer is urged to touch sensors that correspond to the projection. She writes that Schiphorst is using technology as a doorway between the self and the social world, while critiquing understanding of art and representation of women.
