Vtape Artist Showcase: oualie frost

Program available January 30th – February 29th, 2024

Vtape is excited to present an online screening of works by Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based artist and writer oualie frost. This online screening will be accompanied by an interview with the artist and Vtape’s Manager of Outreach & Public Programming, Kiera Boult.

oualie frost is an occasionally practicing writer and (anti?)artist currently living in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal with their codependent cat. Their videos frequently use humour, critique, and their body as tools to explore grief, pain, queerness, ableism and their experiences as a mixed-race, diasporic person of settler and Afro-Caribbean descent.

A recent addition to the Vtape collection, this program and accompanying interview offers viewers an introduction to oualie frost’s exciting, critical, and complex practice. Employing elements of machinima, satire, and performance for the camera, these works invite us into frost’s worlds through their eyes: vibrant, fast-paced places that can be chaotic, calming, overwhelming, energetic, layered, and lonely all at once.
