OPEN FORUM is a “last Tuesdays” monthly series of conversations exploring anti-racism, on our screens and in our film communities. This month’s event screens Wilfred Buck a co-production of the National Film Board of Canada and Door Number 3 Productions Inc, with an introduction by Archer Pechawis. This rollicking hybrid documentary follows the extraordinary life of Wilfred Buck, who overcame a harrowing history by reclaiming ancestral star knowledge. The screening is followed by filmmakers Lisa Jackson and Danis Goulet.
Lisa Jackson’s work has screened at Berlinale, Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, CPH: DOX, and Hot Docs won two CSAs, and been nominated for a Webby. She’s Anishinaabeg (Aamjiwnaang), is a York Alum and is a recipient of the DOC Vanguard Award and the Chicken & Egg Award.
Danis Goulet is a Cree/Métis writer and director, whose films have screened at Sundance, Belineale, MoMA, and TIFF. These include the series Reservation Dogs and North by North, Barefoot (2012), Wakening (2013), and her debut feature Night Raiders (2021).
