Join us for the premiere screening of Lisa Smolkin’s Grafter (2022), in which the artist appears as an interdimensional traveler, finds herself in a black hole, speaks to her AI Social Emotional companion, and comes alive, always, in a body with needs. After the screening, Smolkin will perform in response to a text written by art critic and curator Charlene K. Lau, as predicted by the cosmos.

In March 2023, Lau received a message from the stars to respond to Smolkin’s work. The result was a spring, summer, and fall of astrological happenings and happenstance between the two, plus consultations with artist, musician, and astrologer Vic Cheong—all captured in Lau’s text on Grafter, published online in simultaneity with the event.

This event launches Vitamin C, C Magazine’s new programming series. Vitamin C aims to be flexible, playful, and interpersonal in form, leading toward healing engagements. This series is generously supported by the Toronto Arts Council.
