Escorpiônikas is a daring exploration of resistance and defiance that spans three continents, weaving together the lives of those who stand at the intersections of gender, race, and sexuality. The film follows a collective of trans women, sex workers, and racialized and gender-dissident voices as they challenge the oppressive forces of colonialism and patriarchy that have long sought to marginalize and silence them.

At its heart is a powerful fusion of manifesto and performance. Through radical acts of resistance, intimate interviews, and electrifying performances, the film offers an unflinching look at the lived experiences of these communities. Their stories are not just personal—they are political, embodying a fierce determination to reclaim their identities and assert their place in a world that has often denied them space.

The narrative is enriched by haunting archival footage of old brothels, which allows viewers to experience history from the sex worker's perspective who lived it. These scenes transport the audience to the 1890s during the Klondike Gold Rush in Yukon (Canada) and the 1990s in Guaicurus Street, Minas Gerais in the heartland of Brazil. The footage serves as a stark reminder of the historical roots of oppression, as well as the enduring legacy of colonialism and exploitation that continues to shape the lives of the film’s protagonists.

Some of the film’s most powerful interviews and performances are set in Barcelona, Spain, a vital center for postpornography culture and radical voices. Here, the film taps into a rich tradition of subversive art and activism, further amplifying the collective’s challenge to oppressive norms.

As the collective journeys through different cultural and geographical landscapes, the documentary challenges viewers to confront uncomfortable truths about the systems that govern our world. The film’s potent blend of past and present, reality and performance, invites audiences to question the structures of power that perpetuate inequality and to imagine new possibilities for resistance and liberation.

Escorpiônikas is more than a film—it is a rallying cry for those who have been marginalized, a testament to the strength and resilience of those who refuse to be silenced. In their acts of rebellion, the collective not only deconstructs oppressive systems but also builds a new narrative, one that is rooted in their experiences, their pain, and their hope for a more just and equitable world.
