Monster Tree plays the minute off the enormous to explore a post-human landscape through the cinematic use of a telescopic lens. In Monster Tree attention is focused on a humble-faced burl growing on the side of a tree and juxtaposes it against the massively sublime power of Niagara Falls. This cheeky-faced curiosity growing on a beech tree has gone largely unnoticed for the past 75 years. If we remember that the word monster comes from the French word monstre, to show, then the fact that a burl is a large scar resulting from physical trauma a poignant is as affective as the power of the Falls.
