Senegal/Quebec: Exchanges?

Nelson Henricks and Amadou Pathé Sow

2006, 18:30 minutes, colour, English/French/Wolof

TAPECODE 422.15

Amadou Pathé Sow and Nelson Henricks’ double screen video installation is based on images filmed in Senegal and Canada, combined with texts written by Pathé Sow. The work is a conversation between Pathé Sow, a new immigrant of Senegalese origin and Henricks, a Montréal artist originally from Alberta. The goal of this work is to help people understand there are two realities that exist: a Québécois/Canadian/North American reality dominated by consumerism, speed, and a lack of openness towards other civilizations; and a Senegalese reality marked by poverty, and a thirst for wealth and ease.
