Casting Spells features the artist herself exercising physical and vocal fits, exaggerated almost to the point of violence, while a Leonard Cohen soundtrack continuously plays. She moans and sings (a stream of consciousness or choice words) interrupted periodically by blurry images of a young Israeli soldier or a woman repeating biblical text. Just like the performance, the video’s technical production is reckless and raw: text is incorrectly spelled (Irag, Isreal), the setting is drab and domestic, and the timing of segments is irregular and sporadic.
