Sometimes, escapism can become the very thing you're running from. You Suffer (2021) is a short pseudo-psychological experimental film indulging both my angst and my most nerdy desires. Going back to a middle-school method, I chronicle my semi descent into madness through machinima as I muse over my escapist obsession with the Sims franchise and wonder why even my relaxation time replicates the stresses of life. Despite attempting to create a Sims version of myself, or even just random digital beings that could live a more carefree, happy life without serious stresses or trauma, I still often found them living what I would consider a stressful, repetitive life without balance or true enjoyment. Rather than deeply examining this phenomenon, and following the thought to a useful conclusion, I instead retreat back to a time tested technique: deflection via a cult-classic joke and a humor so dark my professor asked to speak with me after class. In my failing attempts to be a benevolent god, I do what simmers have done since the year 2000 and drown my creation. RIP
