METHodologies is a video intervention produced as part of a research study of chemsex (the sexualized use of methamphetamine in gay-, queer-. and trans-male sexual practices) in Toronto. This video seeks to expand beyond the common demonizations and shame tactics that prevail in public discourse about chemsex, to provide a more nuanced glimpse of actual practices and meanings for users and harm reduction workers. The video soundtrack includes original musics composed by Zealley (for the study’s two vinyl LP records) and spoken word from study participants. “We’re not going to get anywhere if we don’t talk about it.” This video is part of Zealley’s disco mirrorball video trilogy (the others are Becoming Mighty Real and Lucid Dreaming Ludic Waking).
