The Prom is a half hour documentary that reveals the importance of this American high school ritual. The importance is evident whether or not those interviewed attended this rite-of-passage, or opted to stay home. These stories by adults are interspersed with footage of current students preparing for their proms, and arriving there in limousines and lace. The producer holds an "adult" prom, open to the public, and finally attends this event she had missed as a teen. Wearing her mother's evening gown, a great time is had by all.
Interview subjects include drinking and driving; teenage heartbreak; and the Vietnam War.
